Linux 2002

80,629 games all-time on RAWG

Linux is a free and open-source software operating system. The main component of distribution is the Linux kernel, an operating system released in 1991. Linux is the successor of Unix implemented in 1969. It was initially developed for personal computers based on the Intel x86 architecture. Linux is the leading operating system on servers and Android OS smartphones due to its free and open-source software. This is the only platform like that, but Linux is considered to be the successful one. Indie, shooters and action games, both one- and multiplayer, are particularly prevalent among Linux users. These are, for example, Team Fortress, Minecraft, and Counter-Strike.

More on Linux

Along with kernels, Linux uses networking, access to the peripherals, and file systems. As for desktops, the default mode is usually a graphical user interface. There are also Linux User Groups who hold meetings and provide free demonstrations, training, and technical support.

Why some games have no rating

RAWG publishes an average score only once a game has collected 6 or more user votes. Below that it returns 0.0 — while still returning the full vote breakdown. So a game nobody has ever rated and a game with five “exceptional” votes arrive looking identical.

Those suppressed scores are recomputed from the breakdown, which recovers 0 of the 1 games here that would otherwise read as unrated. The rest have no votes at all — mostly obscure, regional or unported titles. That is a real absence, not a gap in the fetch: there is nothing to retrieve.

Everything with a vote ranks in one table, because the order is weighted rather than a raw mean: a score is shrunk toward the all-years mean of 3.79 (too few ranked games here to take a local one) in proportion to how thin its evidence is, so a two-vote 5.0 settles near the middle instead of on top. Metacritic joins at half that weight where it exists — 1 of these games have one.

Ranked 1 game with at least one vote

Ordered by a weighted score, not the raw mean: each game's own average is shrunk toward the all-years mean of 3.79 in proportion to how few votes it rests on, and Metacritic is folded in at half that weight where it exists. A 6-vote 4.67 therefore ranks below a 2,100-vote 4.45 — the raw figure is shown under each score, and sorting by raw score ignores the weighting entirely.

Bars show how the votes split — Exceptional, Recommended, Meh, Skip. A ~ on the raw figure marks a score recomputed from a breakdown RAWG suppresses.
